COMIC BOOK REVIEW - Amazing Spider-man: Worldwide Vol 1

Amongst the numerous comic book characters that have existed, it is quite easy to see that Spider-man is definitely up there as one of the most popular superheroes. Whilst Disney and Sony argue over who gets control of the character on the silver screen, Marvel knows exactly what they’re doing on the pages of their comics.

‘Worldwide’ shows a very different Peter Parker to one that most of us are accustomed to. Gone is the awkward and rather poor student, now Peter is the head of “Parker Industries”, a company that seems to be rivalling Tony Stark’s company. However, a mysterious organization called Zodiac are targeting Peter’s endeavours worldwide. So it’s up to Spider-man and the team from S.H.I.E.L.D. to find these criminals and stop them before they unleash their unknown plan.

The one thing that I do enjoy about Spider-man is that he’s very quippy. The entire time as he’s doing his thing, he’s cracking jokes. I also liked the idea of Zodiac, even though some of them were downright ridiculous. Although there was little time for Spider-man’s character development, you could see how Peter had taken this global CEO role in his stride.

The artwork I thought was really good and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel because of it. The covers on the other hand were lacking in some aspects, but not enough to detract from the novel. Overall, a really good novel, of a series I’m looking forward to continuing!

It was difficult to pick one, but this one just about got it!
