Well, it’s been a while since I read a comic book to do one of these reviews, but my much-needed hiatus is over and I thought who better to start off with than Deathstroke the Terminator. Having seen three different iterations in film and television, it’s nice to compare to the source material!
‘Lobo Hunt’ acts as an almost omnibus telling a number of different stories, all of which highlight the essence of the character. The first story deals with Slade getting a contract to take down Lobo, the infamously invincible alien. Following that is a fight with Koschei, the unkillable man. And finally, Deathstroke is reunited with his family, who are under the control of his son, Jericho. Despite not wanting a fight, Slade is drawn into a battle which has irreversible consequences.
As a whole, my issue with Deathstroke has always been that he’s a character that should be layered but often tends not to be in the comics. This novel changed that perception a little, and it was interesting to see that it was written by Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool, who was intended to be a parody character of Slade.
The artwork was pretty decent, and I believe that Rob did some of the artwork too. What a talented man he is. The covers were good but this one stood out for me! Overall, a good ending to a volume, and I’m excited to start the next one!
Favourite Panel:
I love this panel because on rare occasions we see a noble side to this hired assassin!
Favourite Character:
Slade. Not just because there’s a lack of a supporting cast, but also because he’s damn good at what he does!
