Once in a while, one of the comic book companies will come up with a new and unique story that hasn’t been tried before. These comics are either cancelled after a few issues, or they become a roaring success. ‘Demon Knights’ by DC is one such series, although whether it is a success or a flop is to be seen.
‘Seven Against The Dark’ sounds like it could be a Justice League story. It tells the story of medieval times, where a powerful sorceress who leads a vicious army known as ‘The Horde’ is looking to conquer a city known as Alba Sarum. However, in order to do that, her forces must go through a small town on the way. It just so happens that in this town are seven individuals, including Etrigan the Demon and Vandal Savage, who for different reasons are opposed to this and make a stand to take down her army.
I thought the novel did quite well to balance out each of the seven and provided a backstory for the majority of them. The story was also quite unique, not like any other comic I had read before, but I did enjoy it. Some of the characters, such as Al-Jabr; the Saracen, I’d be more interested in finding out more about.
The artwork was also quite good, and some of the larger action scenes were done very well. I did, however, feel that the covers weren’t as good, the one above is the one exception. Overall, I enjoyed this novel, looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Favourite Panel:
Seeing these characters come together like that was pretty awesome!
Favourite Character:
This was tricky, but it has to be Vandal Savage. The guy is always up to something and we never know what it is!
