When I last left the Demon Knights, they had reluctantly come together to fight an army to save the city of Alba Sarum. Although they were successful in working as a team, there were still unsaid grievances. The series had surprised me thus far so I was looking forward to seeing where it went from here.
‘The Avalon Trap’, involves the team getting to Alba Sarum, only to be told that they had a new mission, which would lead to their reward doubling. The two Queens had the body of Merlin, which was not alive, but not dead and wanted the Demon Knights to bring him back from the mystical land of Avalon. As the team proceeded on their mission, they realised that the Camelot that many of them had once known was now a land full of monsters being controlled by someone in the shadows.
Just like the first novel, I was surprised at how good this novel was. I did not at any moment find myself bored or not wanting to read it because each of the characters is so alluring. There was a lot of character development of Etrigan, including his backstory which was pretty interesting. Also, Merlin is Lucifer’s son? What!?
The artwork has to be commended here because it was really good. I liked the mixture of both crisp and fluid styles. The only qualm I had was that I wasn’t particularly fond of the covers. But overall, this was a good novel, much recommended for anyone who wants to get into something a little different.
Favourite Panel:
Such a different Vandal Savage to the one we all know!
Favourite Character:
Vandal Savage again. He’s just hilarious in this. I can’t see him as a villain at all, anymore!
