COMIC BOOK REVIEW - Doctor Strange: The Way Of The Weird

Time for another Marvel Review. I quite like Benedict Cumberbatch’s portrayal of the Sorcerer Supreme in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I did wonder how much I would enjoy any Dr Strange comic books, given that I, like Superman, dislike magic.
The novel starts with Dr Stephen Strange, explaining how he has been tasked with aiding those people that have been afflicted with magical illnesses. Whilst this is going on, a mysterious organization is killing off magic and its users in all the different dimensions. Finally, they set their sights on Dr Strange, claiming he is the final Sorcerer Supreme they have to get rid of. Stephen does his best in trying to unite magic users in his universe in order to fight off the threat.
‘The Way of the Weird’ is most definitely a very ‘meta’ novel. There are deep ideas in it that not every single person would understand, especially when he explains the price that magic invokes. I thought as a character, the comic book counterpart is a lot more charismatic and likeable than the MCU version.
The artwork was very interesting and at first, I didn’t particularly take to it, but as the novel went on, I realized how good it was. The covers were also not bad, and I thought the style was appropriate for the character. Overall, it was a little confusing, but a pretty interesting novel to read!
Favourite Panel:
He sounds like Tony Stark and smirks like him too. Facial Hair Bros, am I right?
Favourite Character: Dr. Strange. The amount that he sacrifices on a daily amount to save his dimension is pretty remarkable!
