With the CW’s Arrow winding down to a close at the end of this year, Green Arrow is a character that is now known by many. However, when it comes to the comic book character, there’s a bit of a difference from his TV counterpart.
‘The Midas Touch’ tells two different stories involving the Emerald Archer. The first of which involves Oliver Queen taking down a group of villains who are using social media to broadcast their criminal actions. As the Green Arrow, he protects Seattle from this new crime wave. The second part of the novel then introduces two characters, Blood Rose and Midas who want Oliver Queen dead for some reason, this never really being explored in the story. The mystery is left for perhaps a future novel.
In terms of character development, I didn’t feel like there were many outstanding moments for either Green Arrow or Oliver Queen. The one exception is shown in the panel I chose below. However, as a starting point, the novel introduces the character at a beginner level.
The artwork for the large part was average in my opinion. There were no real moments that stuck out to me as amazing, and I’d say that the covers were largely the same. Given my love for the character, it was a little bit disappointing.
Favourite Panel:
I think it's sometimes easy to forget that Oliver Queen is just as much a philanthropist as Bruce Wayne!
Favourite Character:
Although Oliver seems the obvious choice, his supporting team of Naomi and Jax, whom I’d never even heard of before this novel, keep things a little entertaining in a rather dull novel
