COMIC BOOK REVIEW - Hyperion: Daddy Issues
By The Masked Medic
I mean I just finished reading one novel about a Superman wannabe, and here we go with another. This time, however, we’re over at Marvel Comics, with a character called Hyperion, their version of the Man of Steel. This guy though, he’s a little unhinged.
‘Daddy Issues’ tells the story of a young woman named Doll, who seems to be running away from what can only be described as a metahuman circus. She finds our titular hero, who currently living life on the low as a truck driver. Nevertheless, he’s still a hero, and when Doll’s life is put in danger Hyperion steps up to fight her cause. This naturally attracts attention and suddenly he’s the prime target for the leader of the circus. Added to the mix is Hyperion’s recent past for which sooner or later he’s going to need to pay.
Once again, I find myself questioning the absolute nature of my fandom and whether or not, perhaps, god forbid, I’m just a general comic book fan. The story is good, and as a character, he’s really interesting because he literally answers the question, what if Superman wasn’t all just honour and truth?
The artwork was also really good and added to how much I enjoyed this novel. The covers, I wasn’t mad about, but at the same time, they weren’t bad at all. Overall, another good novel, why are all the good Marvel comics one-shots?
Literally an off-balance Superman
Obviously, Hyperion, who is quite a fun character to read!
Story Arc: ★★★½
