COMIC BOOK REVIEW - Lobo: Beware His Might
By The Masked Medic
So the last time that we saw Lobo, he was trying to figure out who had manipulated him to destroy his planet, whilst also still being the badass that he believes he is. Although I liked the aesthetic of the New 52 version, I wasn’t particularly impressed with the story.
This novel, however, moves on to tell of Lobo being hired by a corporation called the Void Whisper. As he takes on one of their missions, he is captured by a character called Countess Odessa who uses mechanical spiders to control her victims' every move. As he’s freed of her control, he gets a notification of a new job. This job has put out a massive bounty for none other than the leader of the Yellow Lanterns; Sinestro. Lobo attempts to find a way to locate Sinestro so that he can go one-to-one against this big bad.
I found that the first half of this novel dragged a little bit, but the second half was a lot better, due to the cohesion of the actual story. In terms of character development, this version of Lobo seems to be a little one-dimensional. He likes women, he likes killing and he thinks he’s the best. It started to get a little boring for me.
The artwork was again decent, although nothing that I think I’d remember. There were a couple of covers that I liked, but this variant for Joker’s 75th anniversary was pretty amusing. I wonder if Lobo would still be as cocky against him.
Seeing these two heavyweights fight each other was definitely the highlight for me.
Honestly, anyone but Lobo. Probably Sinestro in his limited capacity.
