COMIC BOOK REVIEW - Luke Cage: Sins Of The Father

There have been many characters in the Marvel Universe who have successfully received some form of the Super-Soldier serum that Captain America originally received. Arguably the most famous of them is Luke Cage, the man with unbreakable skin.

The novel, ‘Sins of the Father’ starts with Luke going to what he believes is the funeral of Dr Burstein, the scientist who originally gave Luke his powers. However, when he gets there, he finds that there’s a deeper issue at play, with several people in the town having received the same treatment he did, however, along with the invulnerability, giving them all anger issues. As Luke struggles to differentiate friend from foe, he quickly realizes that he’s going to have to end this fight before it gets worse.

I’ll be honest. This novel was a little bit boring for me. When I read that first Iron Fist novel, I assumed that all the “Defenders” would have really exciting solo series novels but this wasn’t great. There was little in the way of character development either so for me, it was a bit of a drag to finish this novel.

The artwork I will say was the one saving grace. I actually really liked it. The artwork for the covers was also really lifelike, however, I chose the one above because it was the most vibrant one! Overall, not impressed with the novel, and not surprised it was the only one in the series.

Luke does have a pretty good sense of humour though.

Favourite Character: Luke. Despite the fact that he had no idea what was going on!
