COMIC BOOK REVIEW - Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Pink

Since the phenomenal success of Boom Studios’ Power Rangers series, they’ve obviously had the incentive to start producing spin-off novels. Right now they’re focused on Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, but it’d be nice if they wrote some about the other series too once in a while!

‘Pink’ focuses on Kimberly Hart, the very first Pink Ranger, as she adapts to life after her Ranger days are over. Pursuing gymnastics, she moves to Europe with her mother and stepfather.

However, when her parents don’t turn up to one of the tournaments, she knows something is wrong and rushes home to find out what’s happened. There she finds that Goldar is turning people into monsters for his own nefarious plan. Since she’s no longer a Ranger, she turns to old allies and new friends to help her defeat her former nemesis.

I wasn’t particularly excited about reading a spin-off novel, since I didn’t know what to expect, but once again Boom Studios proving that they do know what they’re doing. Although the novel probably targets a younger generation, it still had enough of the nostalgia to make me enjoy it. I also loved the whole, what does a Power Ranger do once they’re no longer a ranger aspect!

The artwork was again specific for both the titular character in question but also the age group at which it’s targeted. It’s colourful and preppy, and the covers reflected that too! Overall, a pretty good spin-off!

Favourite Panel:

Zack is a low-key underrated Power Ranger.

Favourite Character:

Kim. She’s got heart and sass and it’s easy to see why she’s so many people’s favourite ranger!

Rating:

  • Story Arc: ★★★½

  • Character Development: ★★★½

  • Artwork: ★★★½

  • Enjoyability: ★★★½

  • Re-readability: ★★

Level: Beginner
