COMIC BOOK REVIEW - Scarlet Witch: Witches' Road

Ever since her introduction into the MCU in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Wanda Maximoff has become pretty well known. However, did you guys know that in the comic book world, she actually the daughter of legendary villain/not-so-villain Magneto? Yeah, you probably didn’t because Disney didn’t own the rights to him back then!

‘Witches’ Road’ sees Wanda deciding to venture solo in order to atone for her past mistakes. What these are, we are never really given any idea, so we just have to run with it. Wanda and her trusty ghost sidekick, Agatha, find that somewhere, someone is casting some pretty dark magic which is messing with a number of people in New York, and also the whole of Ireland. Needless to say, Scarlet Witch finds herself on a mission to find out who is the cause of this and comes up against a guy named the Emerald Warlock? Very original. Magic and chaos ensue.

So, the novel in its entirety is actually not very long. That being said, perhaps in an attempt to mimic the titular character, it’s really weird. There seems to be a lot of stepping up of Wanda, to accept her magical responsibilities, but the story is short and there is little character development. There are still some badass moments, but just not enough of them.

The artwork. Where do I even start with this? It was downright wacky. And in all honesty, I actually hated some of the issues. The covers were also weird, so I had to pick this variant. Overall, I can’t see myself reading another novel from this series again.
