COMIC BOOK REVIEW - Sinestro: The Demon Within

When I first heard about this comic series under the New 52, I assumed that it was going to be a sort of anti-Green Lantern novel, focusing on the bad blood between the two corps. It focused far more on Sinestro, who even without a ring has always been one of the most intelligent and ruthless villains that DC has!

“The Demon Within” starts with a sort of biography of Sinestro and how he came to be one of the greatest Green Lanterns ever. It then cuts to modern-day where Sinestro, is no longer a Green or a Yellow Lantern. However, one of his former Corpsmen, Lyssa Drak finds him telling him that his people, of the planet Korugar, are still alive and he can save them. Finding a new purpose, he becomes the leader of the Yellow Lanterns once more to carry out his new mission. The novel ends with a Future’s End story, a possible future where Sinestro, after having all his Corpsmen killed by Parallax, becomes the leader of the Black Lanterns.

The novel wasn’t bad in terms of character development, because the first issue in its entirety shows how Sinestro changed over the course of his career as a Green then Yellow Lantern. There was also a little bit on Soranik, his daughter who decided to become a Green Lantern.

The artwork differed quite a bit throughout the issue, but none of the artwork was bad in my opinion. I liked some of the covers, but this one in particular stuck out to me! Overall, this was a good novel, but I’d like to see more development of other characters!

It should be Sinestro, but it’s Soranik. She’s badass but also morally sound!
