COMIC BOOK REVIEW - Suicide Squad: Basilisk Rising

The Suicide Squad is arguably one of those odd teams of characters that you don’t particularly want to like, but can’t help it. That’s probably why DC has given James Gunn a chance to retry this band of weirdos and make them a movie success.

‘Basilisk Rising’ is essentially a two-part story. The first tells the story of Amanda Waller being a little more shady than usual as she attempts to get the Suicide Squad to bring in Resurrection Man to add to her roster. Naturally, the Squad aren’t told his skillset and it goes pretty badly. The second half involves the team going after an organization called “Basilisk” who are led by a man named Regulus. The Squad’s attempts to shut him down reveal there may be a traitor in their midst.

This wasn’t a bad novel to read. I certainly enjoyed the first half of the novel. The second half lacked in certain places, but I presume that future novels will continue the story. In terms of character development, the only character who was truly explored was Amanda Waller.

The artwork was again, just average. I didn’t think it was awful, but in certain parts, I didn’t think it was great either. The covers, also lacked, the only one I liked being the one I chose above.

Don’t think we’ve ever seen Waller be nice to anyone. It’s creepy.
