As DC Comics comes into its 86th year of existence, we can’t forget the character that started it all. Clark Kent, aka Superman, an alien from a foreign planet whose powers make him more than human, whilst he lives a very human life.
“What Price Tomorrow” starts with Metropolis accepting that Superman is their local hero and that he’s here to do good. However, when a mysterious number of alien monsters begin to wreak havoc upon the city, Superman finds it difficult to deal with them, let alone figure out where they’ve come from. Then there comes a moment when Metropolis isn’t sure that the Superman they’ve come to love and adore is still the one they have.
Overall, it wasn’t too expansive a story, and plot, for the most part, made sense. I did, however, feel that it did drag in certain parts and there was a lot of unnecessary storytelling to do with the New Daily Planet, which for me was quite boring. Because the New 52 reintroduced all their characters, we get to see quite a younger and more brash Clark Kent than we’re traditionally used to.
The artwork in my opinion wasn’t great, and this was especially highlighted in the covers, all of which I didn’t like. Overall, this was a little disappointing for me, as Supes is such an iconic character. I hope that the next novel in the series is a little better!
Favourite Panel:
This was actually one of the best bits in the novel. Iconic!
Favourite Character:
We didn’t see much of Superman, but without a doubt, he was the best in the novel!
