Oh, 2011. What a time to be a Batman fan. There were like 4 separate comic book series with Batman in the title. The New 52 in its attempt to reboot DC’s comic universe put a lot of focus on both Batman and Superman and I honestly was having the time of my life. But I hadn’t read ‘The Dark Knight’ comic series until now.
‘Knight Terrors’ largely tells the story of Batman attempting to control a breakout from Arkham Asylum. But as he begins to find out, all the inmates have been exposed to a chemical that is making them massive, and angry but also they seem to have enhanced insight. As Batman begins to uncover the mystery of what the chemical is, he keeps running into ‘White Rabbit’, a scantily clad woman, who he’s never run into before. The end of the novel also has a one-shot about one of the Talons and his story.
I have to admit, this novel was pretty good. The story was quite a mystery and the involvement of many of the rogues, including some of the lesser-known ones, was something I appreciated. In terms of character development, I felt it was more focused on Commissioner Gordon, rather than Batman.
The artwork was by David Finch, who I think is phenomenally good at drawing male characters. The covers were all so good that it was difficult to pick my favourite. Overall, I enjoyed this novel, but then it was Batman. I was always going to.
Favourite Panel:
Hang on. Haven’t I seen this before?
Favourite Character:
It’s difficult since Alfred is so funny, but Batman in this novel is a badass.
