COMIC BOOK REVIEW - The Fury of Firestorm: God Particle

Firestorm has been one of DC’s most powerful heroes for a long time. The story may change here and there, but at the heart is the tale of two heroes who combine to make ‘Firestorm’. This story, however, starts before the fusion of two characters ever occurs.

‘God Particle’ starts with Ronnie Raymond, the star quarterback, and Jason Rusch, an honours student who has the Firestorm protocol. When their school is attacked by a group of mercenaries, the two are changed into Firestorms, heroes with nuclear capabilities. These new-found powers attract the attention of Pozhar, a Russian scientist who created the ‘Firestorm Protocol’ with the help of the original creator, Professor Martin Stein. The two boys find that despite having the same powers their difference in attitude leads to clashes that they just can’t deal with.

I’d say that this novel gave a good introduction to the two main characters of this series. It also developed them quite rapidly so we see the differences between them quite early on. I didn’t particularly find the story very interesting, however, it was the first novel so I presume the focus was on introducing the two heroes.

The artwork was okay, I didn’t think it was excellent, but it wasn’t bad either. I wasn’t a fan of the covers though, the one above is the one cover that I liked. Overall, it wasn’t a bad start to a comic series, it’ll be interesting to see how these two become the Firestorm we all know and love.

Favourite Character:

Ronnie. Jason is clever, but he’s a little annoying at the moment.
