Back to Marvel and an unknown team with some unknown characters for me. Although I am more of a DC fan, I have to admit there are a few mainstream comic book characters who I am unaware of. Still, I do enjoy a good team comic series, so I was looking forward to reading this.
The novel starts with introducing us to the ‘Ultimates’, a team comprising of Captain Marvel, Blue Marvel, Black Panther, Ms America and Spectrum. Individually they are some of the most powerful heroes the Marvel Universe has ever seen, but collectively they are a force of nature. That becomes very evident early on in their novel as their first mission involves meeting Galactus, the Destroyer of Worlds! It soon becomes apparent that these five are looking to change reality as they know it by tackling the issues of the whole space-time continuum.
I’ll be honest. At the beginning of the novel, I thought this was a really good series. I liked almost all of the characters and there was great character development for Blue Marvel and Ms America during this novel. However, as the story went on I found myself vastly confused and I had no idea of what was going on.
The artwork for the majority of the novel was done by Kenneth Rocafort who I really like, his work on Red Hood and the Outlaws was amazing! The covers done by him were also really good. The cover I chose, however, was this one by Jim Cheung, another artist I admire! Overall, the artwork can’t save what is one of the most confusing novels I’ve ever read!
Favourite Panel:
I feel that Ms America!
Favourite Character:
It was America Chavez. I’d never heard of her before reading this comic book, but she’s pretty epic!
