As the years have gone by I have to say I’ve become progressively more and more selective about the TV shows that I watch. Once upon a time, I'd give everything a chance and now I just don’t have the patience for that. So when I heard about this new Sky One show, I have to admit part of me wanted to ignore it. But then I saw it had Sean Bean in it, and I was like how bad can it be?
‘Curfew’ tells the story of an alternate reality in which a virus has infected the majority of the United Kingdom, rendering victims into a zombie form. The state, therefore, decides that the best course of action would be to introduce a curfew and create walls around many of the big cities in the country. However every year there is a street race which anyone can enter, the prize being the chance to move to “The Island”, a place where the virus has not spread. We get to see the individual journeys of many characters and they try to win the coveted prize.
In terms of the cast, I was only aware of Sean Bean and Billy Zane, the rest were new faces to me but I have to say each of the main characters bought a certain appeal to the show. My favourite character had to be Joke Jones, played by Billy Zane, who I felt was incredibly insane and yet made so much sense with regard to the situation that these characters found themselves in.
The music in the show was also really good. Some top quality songs used in this apocalyptic drama and I don't know why but the opening theme song really got stuck in my head. If anyone can get me the mp3 file for it, I’d be really grateful.
Overall though, I was quite surprised by this show. I’ve never really been a fan of horror shows or movies, mostly because I find that the horror is quite superficial and makes no sense whatsoever. ‘Curfew’ very thoroughly shows us the backstory and how life came to be this way for the characters. The idea of introducing a race aspect to it, makes the genre fresh and something that people won’t have seen before. I really hope that this show gets renewed for Season 2 and I'm excited to see what the show-runners do next.
